Bramley Meadows – Resident’s comments

ON THE PRINCIPLE OF DEVELOPMENT

  • Some form of development in Bramley is likely given national housing targets. If it is done well, there may be benefits for the village.
  • I accept that more homes are needed nationally and locally, particularly for first-time buyers and young families.

ON INFRASTRUCTURE-LED DEVELOPMENT

  • I could support the proposals if the infrastructure is put in place first, particularly drainage, roads and school provision.
  • If homes and infrastructure are delivered together, rather than one following years later, this could be a better approach than piecemeal development.

ON HOUSING MIX AND LOCAL NEED

  • There is a real need for smaller and more affordable homes so younger people and local families can stay in the village.
  • Providing downsizing homes could help older residents move while freeing up larger family houses.

ON DESIGN AND QUALITY

  • If houses have to be built, they should be high quality, well designed and reflect the character of Bramley.
  • Good landscaping, traditional materials and low-rise homes would make a big difference to how acceptable the scheme feels.

ON SUSTAINABILITY AND ENVIRONMENT

  • Any new homes should be as eco-friendly as possible, with energy-efficient design and renewable technologies.
  • If development comes forward, it needs to protect wildlife and genuinely enhance green space.

ON ENGAGEMENT AND APPROACH

  • I appreciate that consultation is happening at an early stage and that feedback is being asked for before plans are finalised.
  • It is positive to see the landowner and developer engaging directly with residents and parish councils.
